The intensive mosaic class is suitable for beginners and whoever wants to approach the wonderful mosaic art for the first time. You will enjoy a unique experience in a real mosaic studio in Ravenna deep in the green between the city and the sea.
The class is for 10 attendees maximum – beginners. You will learn how to make mosaic art, learning the technique basis of direct technique on lime and the manual cut of the tesserae with traditional tools.
Materials and tools will be provided by Pixel Mosaici and at the end of the class you can take your work home with you.
Classes are taught in Italian, English, French or Spanish and are of two lenght’ choice: weekly 40 hours and weekly 20 hours.
There is the possibility of staying at the PIXEL B&B, adjacent to the studio, with course + accommodation packages.
40 hours class
The 40 hours class is from Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
You will have the chance to learn the fundamental notions about the direct technique on the temporary binder (putty lime) and on final binder: it has to do with ravennate technique mostly used for the antique mosaic (roman and byzantine). You will also learn to manually cut the tesserae that will be composing your mosaic, by using the hammer and the hardietwo tools from the mosaic tradition. Natural materials such as marbles and glass smalti will be used during the class.
During class you will be making two mosaics to bring home with you: a copy of the roman mosaic approx. 30x30cm with direct on lime technique and a copy of the byzantine mosaic approx. 15x15cm using direct technique on concrete
20 hours class
This intensive 20 hours class is from Monday to Friday, half day, in the morning from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm or in the afternoon from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
You will learn the basis of the direct Ravennate technique on temporary binder and the manual cut of the tesserae with hammer and hardie. You will use stony materials ( marbles) and smalti .
During class you will be making mosaic, a copy of a roman or byzantine one, with direct technique on lime approx 30x30cm big that you will bring home with you.
